Years ago an Alabama grandmother gave this 'recipe' to her grand daughter along with other bits of wisdom. This is an exact copy as it was written and found in an old scrapbook, complete with spelling errors.
Makes me want to hang a framed copy on the wall above my sparkling white washer and dryer to remind me every single day just how times have changed and to always be grateful for something as simple as a washer and dryer that do all the work with the push of a button
WARSHIN CLOTHES
Build fire in back yard to heat kettle of rain water. Set tubs so smoke wont blow in eyes if wind is pert.
Shave one hole cake of lye soap in boilin water.
Sort things, make 3 piles
1 pile white
1 pile colored
1 pile work britches and rags
To make starch, stir flour in cool water to smooth, then thin down with boilin water.
Take white things, rub dirty spots on board, scrub hard and boil, then rub colored
dont boil just wrench and starch.
Take things out of kettle with broomstick handle, then wrench and starch.
Hang old rags on fence. Spread tea towels on grass.
Pore wrench water in flower bed. Scrub porch with hot soapy water and turn tubs upside down.
Go put on clean dress, smooth hair with hair combs.
Brew cup of tea then set and rock a spell while you count your blessins.
Thank you, Lord for the many 'blessins' we enjoy today!!!
A special thanks for that lovely washer and dryer!!!
Be sweet!! XXXOOOXXOOX

Thank you for sharing. Happy 4th.
Had never seen one of those ever since I was born. Should hang a picture of those old machinery / stuffs round my house too to show my sons so that they would not take things for granted. Anyway, I am thankful that I was born in this century with just a push of a button for almost anything under the sun, to get things done. Hahahah. Happy blogging to you and have a nice day too
